A few words about progressions strategies. They don't work. That shouldbe enough words:) Actually it is good that progression systems don't work.If a trivial method of beating Blackjack existed, then the casinos wouldno longer offer Blackjack. Beating the casinos has to remain just hardenough that most people won't bother to learn. Instead, they will learnBlackjack betting systems that don't work reaping huge profits for thecasino industry. Let's take a simple case study.

Blackjack Betting System Test. Blackjack systems are tested with Blackjack simulators. An enormous number of hands are dealt following the rules of a system to see the results. For this test, I simulated. The blackjack versions that offer a lower house edge include games with fewer decks (single deck is the best option). The best blackjack options also allow doubling down on any two cards, offer a payout of. The progressive 5-level system is also a simple system, based on a 1, 2, 3, 5, 1 progression (another popular one – 1, 2, 3, 6, 1). For example: you are playing blackjack using this system. Your bet is $5, so.

RQ-21A Blackjack is the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps’ Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System designed and manufactured by Insitu Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company. RQ-21A Blackjack. The Uston SS Blackjack Card Counting System is more advanced but more accurate with a Betting Correlation of 99%. The idea is the same as in the Hi-Lo Card Counting System but involves 6 values.

BlackjackBetting System Test

Blackjack systems are tested with Blackjack simulators. An enormous numberof hands are dealt following the rules of a system to see the results. For this test, I simulated four players as follows:

  • Player 1: Flat bettor. All bets are the same.
  • Player 2: Flat bettor that stops after four consecutive losses. Thistests the belief that stop losses can affect the game.
  • Player 3: This player uses a popular strategy found in the book 21stCentury Blackjack by Walter Thomason. Without going into details, this is basically a 2-3-4-5 positive progression, reset on shuffle, stop after four consecutive losses.
  • Player 4: Hi-Lo card counter spreading 1-8. I call this a lazy counterbecause only very simple card counting betting is utilized. No indexesare used.
  • All players play exactly the same basic strategy except that the cardcounter bets Insurance according to the count.
  • Total amount bet is measured including splits, insurance and doubledowns.
  • One billion hands were run.

Results

There are only tiny differences between the flat bettor, flat bettorwith quit point, and Thomason strategy from 21st Century Blackjack. The Thomason strategy is a bit worse than flat betting as predicted byTheory of Blackjack. Of course, the counter fares far better. Thecounter's profit is small because playing indexes were not used. In otherwords, progression betting and stop losses had almost no effect on resultsand loses. Card counting wins.

OneBillion Hands

It is oft asked what does running one billion hands matter when I won'tplay that many. The point is to increase the accuracy of the estimateof what will happen in the short-term. The above numbers show that a flatbettor making 1,000 ten dollar bets will, on average, lose 60 cents lessthan a Thomason bettor risking the same dollars. Progression books oftenlook at a very small number of hands, say 10,000. Well, for any 10,000hands it is easy to come up with a system that will win. but, it willonly win for that particular 10,000 hands. That doesn't mean it will winfor the next 10,000 hands.

Note: Many Blackjack progression system peddlers claim that simulatorsare not accurate because they don't shuffle like casinos. But, the CVDataBlackjack Simulator can simulate any Blackjack shuffle in excruciatingdetail.

EmpiricalEvidence

A few words on empirical evidence. Progression books are always basedon empirical evidence. The author won so the system must work. Many othershave also claimed some sort of evidence based on what they or others haveseen. If I won, I must have done something right. I would like to talkabout the value of empirical evidence from three viewpoints - Example,Meaning and Quotes:

Example
Empirical evidence means evidence gleaned from experience only. Saythat you go to George Burns' doctor. George Burns lived a century andsmoked cigars constantly. Should his Doctor advise you to smoke forlong life? Empirical evidence would say yes.

Meaning
What does empirical mean? Well, let's look at its roots. Obviously itcomes from empiric. The Oxford English Dictionary defines an empiricas

  • A member of the sect of ancient physicians called empirici who drewtheir rules of practice entirely from experience, to the exclusionof philosophical theory…An untrained practitioner in physic orsurgery; a quack. A pretender, imposter, charlatan.
  • That practices physic or surgery without scientific knowledge: Thatis of the nature of a quack nostrum.
  • That is guided by mere experience, without scientific knowledge;also of methods, expedients, etc.
  • Ignorantly presumptive, resembling, or characteristic of a charlatan.
  • Empiracally - After the manner of an empiric or quack-doctor.
  • Empiricism - Practice founded upon experiment and observation; ignorantand unscientific practice; quackery.

(Sorry, I'm just copying these out of the dictionary.)

Quotes
Not always of value, but telling. A few of the early quotes that tendto define a word. Warning, I'm going back to the earliest uses - sosome of the spelling is in Middle English

  • A pedlar of medicines and tinker empirical to the body of man -Butler, 1680
  • The great majority of accidents are..the results of empirical management- Yeats 1872
  • By an empirical formula is meant one that is conceived or inventedwithout any analysis or demonstration. - Nat. Philos., 1872
  • The chymistry of the galanical tribe is a ridiculous and dangerousempiricism. - Starkey, 1657

IsCard Counting Magical?

A few words on card counting. It has been stated that before Thorp noone counted. So perhaps we're just waiting for the genius of progressionsystems. Well, most people know that the fact that progressions fail hasbeen known for centuries. But, card tracking has also existed for centuries. It dates back to the earliest days of Whist. Anyone that aspires to playBridge, Poker, Rummy, Gin, Pinochle, Hearts, Spades - even GoFish knowsthat you must keep track of the played cards. In fact, primitive variationsof shuffle-tracking have been used by Poker and Bridge players for aslong as I've played. This is the way that cards have been played by expertsfor centuries. Not to take anything away from Thorp. He was the firstto codify an easy process for card counting. But, the general conceptof taking into account seen cards has a long history.

'With no obstacles, and no fear Liberates herself, from illusion'

-Donovan Leitch, 1996

Those who don’t like to use risky blackjack betting systems like the Parlay or Martingale usually opt for split strategies like the 1-3-2-6 system. At first this sounds pretty complicated because it’s just a string of numbers. However, using this betting strategy isn’t overly-difficult – even for beginning blackjack players. That said, let’s take a closer look at how to use this system.

Basics of the 1-3-2-6 System

The numbers say it all with this strategy since the idea is to bet 1 unit, 3 units, 2 units and 6 units consecutively. However, the thing to remember with the 1-3-2-6 system is that you only increase the unit sizes after a winning bet. So if you lose three bets in a row, you’ll still be wagering one unit until you win. Assuming you lose in the middle of the cycle, you would return to the one unit wager at the beginning; likewise, after completing the cycle, you’d also return to one unit bets.

Example of 1-3-2-6 System

Blackjack Point System

To set up an example of this blackjack betting strategy, let’s say that you are making $10 bets. Assuming you won four bets in a row, your first wager would be $10, the second would be $30, the third would be $20 and the fifth and final bet would be $60. Once you’ve completed the sequence, you would return to a $10 bet. Looking at things from a different perspective, let’s say that you win the $10 bet, win the $30 wager, but lose the $20 bet; in this case, you’d drop back down to the $10 bet and start over.

Is the 1-3-2-6 System Effective?

Blackjack system

The big question that everybody wants to know upon hearing about this system is whether it’s effective or not. As far as a system goes, it’s not too risky, but you still won’t gain any significant advantage over the house. After all, the blackjack house edge remains the same no matter if you’re flat betting or using the 1-3-2-6 system.

Now this isn’t to say that you need to steer clear of this blackjack betting strategy because it’s fun to use to break the monotony of playing regular. However, you won’t win any more profits over the long run with the 1-3-2-6 system. And depending on the size of your bankroll, it can be risky to use such a strategy because you increase wagers after wins a lot. It especially gets risky on the fourth wager when you increase the betting size to 6 units. But again, if you’re just looking to have fun with the 1-3-2-6 system, then by all means do so.
